Southern Area Rocketry (SOAR) association will support Pack 20 in a model rocket launch. https://www.soarrocketry.org/
The pack is providing an Estes model rocket to each cub scout, that they will need to build at home. They will receive the rocket at the September pack meeting.
Event: Model Rocket Launch Pack Meeting
Date: Reschedule to Saturday March 7, 2025 @ 3:00 p.m.
GPS address: 1470 Eagles Perch Rd, Ball Ground, GA 30107. Watch for CUB SCOUT PARKING yard signs along Eagles Perch Rd, for the metal gate to the field. The gate to the field does not have a street number.
Uniform: Cubs and den leaders should wear their Pack gold t-shirt. If you haven’t had an opportunity to get a t-shirt yet, no worries.
Families should:
- Bring water & snacks. Even in October, the Scouts will get parched.
- Bring folding camp chairs to sit on.
- Wear long pants. The launch area grass is cut short…the rest of the field is wild. Families will be chasing rockets through the fields.
- Please wear full cover shoes. Do not wear open-toed sandals. This is a cow pasture – old shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty are recommended.
There will be porta-potty at the launch field.
It will take you a few days to build your rocket models, to put on parts, glue together, let glue dry, and move to the next steps. Rockets with simple white rocket tubes can be painted & decorated.
Once you build the rocket, do not finish putting the parachute in the rocket and nose cone on. We will put wadding in the rocket, load the parachute, and put the nose cone on at the launch site. If you built an Alpha Rocket, please write your name with a sharpie on the orange plastic fins (there will be 10+ identical rockets on Sunday).
The Pack will provide rocket engines to get each model to be launched at least twice.
Cubs should have received a sheet of paper with two “SOAR LAUNCH CARD” printed on them. Please fill out the “Kit Name”, the “Rocket Name” that you give your personal rocket, “Your Name”, and “Motors” with A8-3, on each card. Cut the sheet in two. You will hand the SOAR launch manager one of these cards, each time you launch your rocket.
